Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) includes angina, heart attacks and heart failure. It is influenced by a number of lifestyle factors including smoking, poor diet, obesity, and lack of exercise.

Approximately 20% of CHD-related death can be attributed to cigarette smoking.

In 2006 there were 207 deaths from CHD in Tower Hamlets residents, 95 of those were aged less than 75.

Across the borough the death rate was highest in East India and Lansbury, Bethnal Green South, Bromley by Bow and Spitalfields & Banglatown

The best way to prevent coronary heart disease is to make sure that your 'bad cholesterol' (LDL) level is low and that your 'good cholesterol' (HDL) cholesterol level is high.

Eating a healthy balanced diet, Giving up smoking, controlling diabetes and being more physically active are some of the ways to achieve this.
